Where your donation will be used

The Annual Fund supports three key areas of need within the University

Student Welfare

Providing personal support for students in the form of hardship loans, counselling societies and extra curricular activities

For example, the Fund has been used to set up an online counselling service for students facing stress and emotional difficulties. The service will enable students to share problems and receive advice and support from their peers. To some students this help could mean the difference between academic success and failure. Our alumni helped us to provide £6,400 towards this vital service. Click here to read more

Teaching and Research

Always a major priority for the Annual Fund, donations are used to provide new teaching posts, conferences, workshops and excursions.

For example, the Annual Fund enabled six City students from the Department of Music to go on an educational visit to Iran in July 2008, where they immersed themselves in the country's culture and musical traditions. Click here to read more.

Environment and Facilities

Vital support is provided for maintenance and improvement of university buildings and enhancement of facilities such as IT equipment.

For example, the Fund has also been used to acquire a number of electronically adjustable tables in the main library which will benefit disabled students. Furthermore, donations have enabled us to provide 10 orthopaedic chairs which will assist students with disabilities and those suffering from back injury. This work cost £18,000.  Click here to read more
