The Ordinances and Regulations set the framework within which the University operates
Ordinances are approved by Council. The provisions of the Ordinances often derive directly from the University's Statutes, which are approved by the Privy Council. Ordinances are extant wherever Council believes they are necessary to pursue the objects of the University. The University’s governance structure, including the roles of Council and its subcommittees (including Senate), membership and staffing are encapsulated in the ordinances.
The University's current Ordinances, not titled Statutory Instruments are currently being updated in response to the new Charter and Statutes. Please click here for the latest version of Charter, Statutes and Ordinances.
Senate approves regulations related to its terms of reference. Senate’s role encompasses academic quality and assurance of academic standards. Its responsibilities cover all teaching programmes, research, admission to the University, academic awards, conduct of assessment, student discipline and academic dress.
