Welcome to City University London's environment web pages.  For all the latest updates about what's happening around the University, please see the News and Commentary page.

City University London is committed to creating a sustainable work and study environment. We aim to do this by systematically improving our energy efficiency and use of resources, by integrating principles of sustainability into corporate strategies and operational procedures, and by raising awareness of environmental issues amongst our staff, students and the wider community.

As one of Islington’s largest employers, we have a significant part to play in reducing emissions in London. In recognition of this responsibility, we have taken carbon reduction seriously and have targeted to reduce our emissions by 15% by 2010 as part of our participation in the Carbon Trust's Higher Education Carbon Management programme and

also the Islington Climate Change Partnership.  We are also please to announce that the University has signed up to the 10:10 initiative to reduce its carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.

The Environment Team (based within the Property and Facilities Department) is responsible for the day to day implementation of the University's environmental initiatives.  They are supported by the Environmental Champions, a network of staff volunteers across the estate who aim to promote a greener working and studying environment and help raise environmental awareness amongst students and staff.  Strategic level support for all the University's environmental initiatives is provided by the Sustainability Group.
