Green Travel
City University London has developed a Green Travel Plan as part of its overall commitment to sustainability and as a strategic business tool aimed at reducing the impact of all types of travel generated by the University's activities.
Some key benefits arising from the Green Travel Plan include:
- Improved range and quality of travel choices for students and staff
- Support for healthier lifestyles for those who walk and/or cycle
- Improved recruitment and retention
- Reduced carbon footprint and other environmental gains
- Improved research opportunities
- Enhanced public image and reputation for the University as a socially responsible organisation.
A number of initiatives have been identified to improve the travel experience for our students and staff, including the recent installation of a 100-space secured cycle parking facility with helmet lockers at Northampton Square. For access to this shed, please visit the Security Office at main reception.
Showers and changing rooms are available at various locations around the University, including University Building, Social Sciences, College, Tait, West Smithfield, Whitechapel and Cass Business School. Enquire with the reception desk at these buildings for further details.
City offers a cycle-to-work scheme for staff wishing to obtain bikes and safety equipment for travelling to work. Contact Human Resources on 020 7040 3085 for further details.
Additional incentives are offered regularly to our students and staff throughout the year, such as free bike maintenance sessions and cycle training.
