The City of London Academy - Islington

The University is fully committed to the successful development of a new Academy school in Islington and we are proud to be one of two sponsors for the School

Academies are a new type of school. They bring a distinctive approach to school leadership drawing on the skills of sponsors and other supporters and give Principals and staff new opportunities to develop educational strategies to raise standards and contribute to diversity in areas of disadvantage.

As a joint sponsor of The City of London Academy - Islington, along with the City of London Corporation, we will play a leading role on the governing board, helping to bring the school into existence. Beyond that, we plan to make available our expertise and reputation in relation to enterprise education and links with business and the professions.

Our work with the new City of London Academy is a natural extension of our community work and is a natural fit – providing an excellent education and raising aspirations is why we exist. Our track record speaks for itself: We have a strategic alliance with City and Islington College with whom we run a number of courses. Furthermore, our graduate employability record is one of the best in the UK.  We are currently ranked 10th in the UK for graduate employability (The Times University Guide 2011).

The Academy’s specialism will be business and enterprise with a particular focus on leadership, critical thinking and creativity. We will be emphasising the development of personal responsibility and resilience, interpersonal skills, understanding of ethical issues and other competencies through challenging entrepreneurial teamwork assignments.
