- Our name was adopted in 1966 to reflect our long-lasting relationship with the City of London.

- Our Nursing courses are ranked 1st in London and 14th in the UK by both the Guardian University Guide 2013 and the Times Good University Guide 2013.
- The Sunday Times University Guide 2013 places us 9th in the UK for graduate-level jobs and 12th overall in the graduate employment category.

City has six Schools - Cass Business School, School of Arts & Social Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences, School of Informatics and The City Law School. Our Graduate School, six interdisciplinary centres and the Learning Development Centre complete the academic structure of the University.

Cass Business School
Cass is ranked as the 4th business school in the UK, 13th in Europe over the past three years and is in the top 1% of business schools in the world (Financial Times, 2011/12).- Business and Management courses at Cass are ranked 1st in London and 2nd in UK by the Guardian University Guide 2013.
- Cass is ranked 10th in the UK for Finance courses in the Times Good University Guide 2013.
- Cass Business School holds the gold standard of 'triple-crown' accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).
- The Sir John Cass Foundation has supported education in London since 1710.
School of Arts and Social Sciences
- Politics courses are ranked 8th in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2013.
- The last Research Assessment Exercise (2008) placed the School's Centre for Music Studies in the top 15 in the UK for music research.
- The Centre for Cultural Policy and Management, part of the School, is the longest-established centre of its kind in the country.
- The School currently has around 4,000 alumni working as journalists and media professionals around the world.
School of Health Sciences
The School is ranked 1st in London and 14th in the UK for Nursing (Guardian University Guide 2013 and Times Good University Guide 2013).- The School incorporates the former St Bartholomew's School of Nursing and Midwifery with over 120 years' experience in educating health professionals.
- The last Research Assessment Exercise (2008) Nursing and Midwifery submission by the School was named the best in London.
- City was the first institution in the world to offer a full-time course in ophthalmic optics in 1927.
School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
Engineering was at the heart of City's foundation in 1894. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were two of the first departments formed.- City was the first to offer courses in Aeronautical (now commonly known as Aerospace) Engineering in the UK.
- The School is ranked 18th in the UK for Electrical and Electronic Engineering by the Guardian University Guide 2013.

School of Informatics
The School holds accreditation from BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP).- Over 87% of postgraduate students from the School of Informatics were employed within six months of graduating, 9% above the national average in 2010 (HESA, 2010).
The City Law School
The School was the first in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education.- It incorporates the former Inns of Court School of Law, established 1852.
- Alumni include many global leaders, such as Mohandas 'Mahatma' Gandhi, Herbert Henry Asquith, Clement Attlee, Jawaharlal Nehru, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.
